World keeps changing, for what the past may not be the future. After making use of a slim laptop for so many years, slim and portable become what I get used to.
After replacing windows based laptops from 12/13.3/14/17 inch, all no really lasting long. Then I use Macbook pro 13.3" inch, that really lasts for over 5 years++, then I change to Macbook 12" inch, that legendary slim, fanless and small enough for travel. Not to mention, it is the perfect size and light weight with me moving around from sofa, dining table and even sleeping bed.
Now i think back, whether it worth for me to think about get a proper desktop, maybe go for big screen and high performance, like 27" to modern 34" display, but for the use case for the leisure, I can only think off it for the living room, that is for the TV replacement, where right now I had the 34" TV display connected with Google Home and Google TV adaptor, so basically that is for Smartphone to laptop streaming over, without any issue and then back to another possible use case will be for high performance gaming, if that the scenario, what I really need is just change it to windows high performance gaming machine, that all that needed. But for me, I haven't been into that kind of gaming for a very long period of time, since I married.
I still recall, its ultra lightweight over the "Macbook Air", and for those like me will know how the masterpiece it is crafted, even now I use it, my Macbook remains modern and stylish, that the design that makes computing enjoyable. But since Apple somehow made the decision to kill it off, my next laptop seems to be back to the Windows ecosystem back again. Lots of alternatives for 12" high performance laptops nowadays.
The so-called ipad pro 12" for being laptop replacement, I own it, but really, it not really productive use case for that, the most is high performance ipad with the pencil 2, for me, lot of application you need a "laptop" and Mac OSX to be used with, and Ipad Pro, like it or not, this is 3rd display within laptop and smartphone. For leisure internet surfing, yes, bigger screen, but for writing in a sleeping bed and sofa, that is the use case for the slim and ideal for Macbook pro i used. Size just ideal, and do not feel the weight.

I recall a scene seen in the House of Card tv drama, Frank Underwood takes out aged old, and his father left over and still can use typewriter and use it to type letters.
Once upon a time, it was typewriters that ruled the world. Then electronic typewriter and eventually replaced by laptop for slim choice. Desktop just too bulky unless you need it to run specific high performance applications to do work, else, it's a slim laptop that for me makes the touch.
Sometimes I see it from the movie scene, or someone uses it to create a beautiful scene, it makes me think maybe I need to have one. Maybe just to experience that moment. For the touch and the mechanical sound of each stroke it takes, and roller, feed paper, and focus on type what is in mind.
Of course if modern day still needs one, you can get the mimic typewriter keyboard for the purpose, it offers retro style and maybe that lifestyle or we want to personalize ourselves with it.
I came across the idea of an iPad typewriter, someone found the old typewriter and made it work with the ipad, for those who prefer the typewriter experience in the modern world.
World keeps changing at a fast speed, and old values and beliefs in the past, may still try to hold us back in the old days. But after thoughts, it matters most to move forward, based on new technology it can offer, it allows travel light and modern productivity.
And a new alternative way we use to enjoy our own lifestyle is kept inventing. It matters for how we enjoy our time, instead of the mean.
